The University has a site licence for Mathematica.

At the IfA, the executable is found at /lnxpack/amd64/roe/bin/mathematica (equivalently /roe/bin/mathematica) and should be available on your path.

First time installation

1. Start Mathematica
2. When presented with the "Activate online" dialogue, click Other way to activate
3. Connect to a network licence server
4. Server name mathematica.is.ed.ac.uk
5. Activate

Note, on some machines the activation freezes at step 5. The cause is that each machine's IP must be added to a list of accepted IPs for Mathematica.

Submit a helpdesk ticket requesting that your machine (specify) be added to this list.
