Lecturer in Observational Astronomy
We are seeking candidates of international quality for a permanent Lectureship in Observational Astronomy at the Institute for Astronomy (IfA). We are interested in any high-quality candidate with a proven record of independent research, whose interests and expertise can either link with or enhance/complement the current research activities within the IfA We especially welcome applications from candidates with expertise of relevance to the teaching of observational astronomy and instrumentation.
You should demonstrate strength in research as well as interest and ability in teaching (the School of Physics was graded 5 in the last Research Assessment exercise, and graded Excellent by SHEFC in teaching quality, and aims to maintain or enhance both these gradings). The post is available from April 1st 2007, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The IfA undertakes a broad research programme in cosmology, galaxy formation/evolution, AGN, star formation, low-mass stars, and wide field astronomy, and is co-located with the UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UKATC) - see www.roe.ac.uk. The School of Physics at the University of Edinburgh is also part of the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA) - see www.supa.ac.uk.
Salary Scale: Grade 8 £32795 -39160 p.a.
