Undergraduate Lecture Courses

I teach two undergraduate lecture courses

Astrophysics 3, Semester 1
Observational Astronomy and Physics of Stars & Nebulae

This course runs every year, and is designed as an entry-level course for Astrophysicists, compulsary in the Junior Honours year. Students on other flavours of physics degree can take this course as an option, in later years.

Lectures are held in the IfA Lecture Theatre at the Royal Observatory, at 12.10pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, in Semester 1. Problem solving classes are intermingled with these. There are separate tutorials on Mondays of weeks 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11, from 11.10 to 13.00 in Room 5326 of the JCMB. There will also be a revision class closer to the exams.

The DRPS course description can be found here.

The materials associated with the course are available through the University's LEARN environment.

High Energy Astrophysics

This course runs alternate years (2011-12, 2013-14, 2015-16, etc) and is a Masters-level course, covering high-energy radiation processes and their applications in astrophysics. The DRPS course description can be found here.

Lectures are held in the IfA Lecture Theatre at the Royal Observatory, at 14.00pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, in Semester 2. Problem solving classes are intermingled with these. There are separate tutorials on Mondays of weeks 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11, from 15.00 to 17.00, also in the ROE Lecture Theatre. There will also be a revision class closer to the exams.
