Non-linear evolution of clustering

One of the essential steps in using galaxy clustering for quantitative cosmology is to understand the non-linear development of gravitational instability. This requires numerical simulation. Research at ECCA is carried out in collaboration both with individuals and in conjunction with the Virgo Consortium, which has provided the world's largest numerical datasets of gravitational clustering, incorporating dark matter and gas including the billion-particle "Hubble volume," which simulates the majority of the visible Universe.
