ECCA Research

ECCA researchers have been involved in the development and application of high-resolution numerical algorithms in fluid and gravitational dynamics for applications to astrophysics. Areas of current interest include the formation of cosmological structures and their clustering under the influence of gravity, the formation of stars and planets in the Galaxy, the merger of compact objects like neutron stars and black holes as precursors to gamma-ray bursts, and the gravitational dynamics of dense stellar systems like globular star clusters.

In addition to the research in ECCA, several members of the Institute for Astronomy are active in several areas of computational astronomy, principally focussed on large data surveys and their exploitation.
