KOTI participates in pan-African Workshop on Astronomy in Education
From 3-5 October 2023, the African Regional SHAW-IAU Workshop on Astronomy for Education took place at the South African Astronomical Observatory in Cape Town. The workshop was organised by the South African Astronomical Observatory and African Astronomical Society (AfAS), in collaboration with the IAU Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE), with funding from the Shaw Prize Foundation.
It was a great an opportunity to meet, learn, and connect with everyone across the continent. Among the many participants, Richard Vaughan gave a brief talk about the progress in optical wavelength astronomy in Kenya, notably the new partnership with the Turkana Basin Institute. The next step, he explained, is to finalise a site for the first permanent research-level telescope, which is likely to be on the summit of Ol Donyo Nyiro, immediately to the south of Lake Turkana.
