I am the Professor of Extragalactic Astrophysics in the University of Edinburgh, and the current Head of the Institute for Astronomy (part of the School of Physics & Astronomy). This is located within the The Royal Observatory Edinburgh.

My research covers a wide range of extragalactic astrophysics, mostly observation-driven. My particular interests are in galaxy formation and evolution, active galactic nuclei (especially radio-loud AGN), cosmic star formation, radio astronomy, and the early Universe.
