Adaptive Optics Tomography Workshop
The 2 day workshop was held on March 25 and 26 at the UK Astronomy Technology Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland.
The overall topic for the workshop was "lessons learnt from AO tomography", and we welcomed contributions from all applications to develop and broaden inter-disciplinary links.
This workshop followed on from the Leiden workshop in 2012, where a combination of presentations, and discussions of new ideas for issues raised made for an interesting and varied workshop.
Outline Agenda
- A brief overview of AO tomography and its requirements, technical and scientific
- Measurements of laser-produced guide stars (e.g. those in the sodium-layer for astronomy), and discovered consequences of their imperfection
- Characterizing the sources of aberration (e.g. turbulence in astronomy) and consequences of their measurements
- Laboratory developments (e.g. new methods for calibration of tomography systems, or developments of layer-orientated or star-orientated systems)
- Improvements in reconstruction for the tomographic case and in modelling finesse (e.g. issues with current approaches and new solutions)
- Discoveries and developments for the future (e.g. ELT-specific issues for astronomy, or using tomography measurements outside of AO.)
