The Royal Observatory Visitor Centre is closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We are not confirming any new group bookings at the current time, and there are no public events taking place on site.

All upcoming events are subject to cancellation. Attendees to cancelled public events will receive a full refund. If you have any questions please get in touch via email on as the Visitor Centre team are currently working from home.

6:30pm - 7:30pm and 8pm - 9pm

Are you visiting Edinburgh for the first time or simply looking for an alternative night out? Are you curious about astronomy and want to find out more?

Come and hear the story of Edinburgh’s Royal Observatory at our Public Astronomy Evenings. Each session lasts 1 hour and includes;

  • A tour of the beautiful Victorian telescope dome
  • Observing outside on the flat roof (weather permitting)
  • Information about the science and engineering that happens today at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh
  • Time to ask questions

These events are designed to be suitable for all ages, with the earlier session timed for those with younger children. When the weather doesn’t allow us to stargaze, alternative activities will be arranged.

Cost £6 adults, £4.50 children/concessions Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum individual group size for these sessions is 10 people.

Please note that no refunds shall be allowed if the ticket is cancelled within 1 day (24 hours) before the event.
