Data Reduction
HiZELS data is fully reduced using our dedicated pipeline, PfHiZELS (Pipeline for HiZELS). This was presented in Sobral et al. (2009a), and it follows the basic procedures first described in Geach et al. (2008). The Pipeline is based on Python (www.python.com), but it also makes use of SExtractor, WCS Tools and SWarp and was written to be a user friendly, easy-to-use data-reduction pipeline optimised for J, H and K near-IR imaging. It only requires the science frames and dark frames, and it is capable of producing the final, stacked science frames, by self-flatting the data, masking bad pixels and cosmic rays, and after obtaining a good astrometric solution for each frame.
