Wide Field Infrared Camera For UKIRT
WFCAM is an IR widefield camera for the UK Infrared Telescope
on Mauna Kea (UKIRT), and is currently the most capable IR imaging
survey
instrument in the world.
The
camera has been designed to maximize survey speed at J, H and
K while retaining excellent image quality. With large allocations
of UKIRT time, unprecedented surveys in depth/area will be possible.
Both large public surveys and common-user observations will be
made.
Public survey data will be released to member states of the European
Southern Observatory (ESO) first and to the world 18 months later.
