UKIRT Preparation System
Dr. Postdoc creates an Observation Definition:
- Browse available catalogs (local and on the internet) to select targets. System creates a Target Description for each selected target (or enter description of the target by hand).
- Provide basic details (brightness, central wavelength, resolution) of required observation. System determines sensible Instrument Configurations for them (These may then be edited or Dr. Postdoc may enter them all herself)
- Given the basic details the system suggests a sensible Observing Sequence to be used to obtain the data frames. (This may be modified or overridden).
- The system then suggests a Data Reduction Recipe appropriate to that observing sequence (Dr. Postdoc may change this or build her own!)
- Finally she completes the Scheduling Information
The system Verifies the Definition
Submits it to the Observing Database
