NAOMI

The William Herschel Telescope

The William Herschel Telescope is situated on the island of La Palma just off the coast of North Africa. It is one of the Isaac Newton Group of telescopes, and is a 4.2 metre Alt-Az telescope with gravity stable platforms at the level of the Altitude bearings, known as Nasmyth stations. On one of the Nasmyth platforms is an enclosed laboratory for high-resolution imaging, the GHRIL, which is an ideal location for the NAOMI adaptive optics system and for the planned Laser Guide Star upgrade.
