The First Billion Years

I am a theoretical and computational astrophysicists working on unlocking the cosmic puzzle of the formation and evolution of galaxies and black holes in a Universe dominated by dark energy and dark matter. You will find information on me and the research of my group, as well as movies and data from our cosmological hydrodynamical simulations here.

About Me

I am a Professor at the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh and hold a Personal Chair in Theoretical Astrophysics. I am also a member of the Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics and Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. I hold a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Heidelberg (2003).

I was previously an Independent Max-Planck Research Group Leader (Associate Professor Level) at the Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestial Physics (2008-2013), Departmental Lecturer at Oxford University (2005-2008); and Postdoctoral Researcher at Oxford University (2003-2005).
