Intro
My interest in astronomy started through joining my local astronomical society and attending talks such as the one I’m giving today. In those days I was fascinated by the imagery produced by astronomy - the colourful nebulae, grand spiral galaxies, and dazzling comets - but never really understood what scientific knowledge could be obtained from just a single picture. So in this talk I hope to be able to explain that even with a just a single snapshot of the universe we can improve our knowledge of astrophysics.
