The third workshop in the SC4DEVO ("Service composition for data exploration in the Virtual Observatory") series was hosted by Dave Abel and the CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences division, and took place at their headquarters, on the campus of Macquarie University in Sydney on 28 and 29 July 2005.
The theme of this workshop was the use of visualization techniques for data exploration in the Virtual Observatory (VO). As with the previous two SC4DEVO meetings, this was an informal workshop, with scheduled talks interspersed with plenty of time for discussion.
It was intended that the workshop attendees will include astronomers defining the science drivers for VO visualization, software engineers developing VO visualization software and visualization experts from the computer science community looking for new challenges to influence the direction of their research. Those new to the VO might be interested in this briefing note prepared for the first SC4DEVO workshop, while presentations from the previous SC4DEVO workshops are available from the following URLs: SC4DEVO-1 (http://grist.caltech.edu/sc4devo/) and SC4DEVO-2 (http://www.nesc.ac.uk/action/esi/contribution.cfm?Title=483 and http://www.nesc.ac.uk/action/esi/contribution.cfm?Title=490).
