Stargazing software and apps

Stellarium is a free planetarium programme that you can use to explore the night sky from the comfort of your own home. Installers are available for Windows, Mac, or Linux from the Stellarium website.

There are also many apps for smartphones and other mobile devices that can help you to explore the night sky. You can find an app that works with your device by searching in your device’s app store.

Some examples are:

  • Astronomy for Kids (by Star Walk 2)
  • Sky view (by Terminal Eleven)
  • Stellarium Mobile sky map (by Noctua Software Limited)
  • Star Tracker – mobile sky map (by PYOPYO Studio)
  • Sky Safari 5 (Simulation Curriculum Corp.)
