Aug.01 Design presented at DDR level.A few items to close out but looking good. 2 axis prototype build
Oct.01 Product Assurance plan rolled out. Presentation.
Jan.02 Development Model (DM)released for manufacture
Feb.02 Detailed 2 axis prototype warm testing completed, including control loop tests. Preparation for cryo tests started. Kick-off meeting on random response FEA held. Magnetic modelling underway at MPIA. Representative Zeiss/PACS motors received. This will require a re-design of DM to accomodate (designated DM-2). DM-1 model manufacture in an advanced state. Cryo-upscreen rig design complete and placed with workshop for manufacture. Brazed CuBe pivots (chop axis type) order placed with C-Flex.
Mar.02 Cryostat cold repeatability & linearity tests performed - looks good (though needs to be confirmed with AR coated window). Problem with noise affecting control loop - need screened wires on BSM, which will only be available with DM-2. DM-1 started assembly. Cryo-upscreen rigs manufactured and assembled. Tentative booking for warm vibration tests requested with RAL work on justification/test plan in hand.. IBDR presentation given. Draft SMEC/BSM simulator philosophy for integration and tests discussed
Apr.02 Cryostat warm repeatability & linearity tests performed with AR coated window PTFE coated STP/STT wire for DM-2 sourced from RAL, common procurement of wire for future models discussed with RAL. DM-1 assembled and fastener torque procedure detailed. Warm shake of DM-1 and 1 off flex pivot upscreen rig completed successfully!
May.02 DM-2 in manufacture
Oct.02 Delivery of Structural thermal model. DM-2 in warm tests.
Jan.03 Cold tests (4K) at ATC.
Feb.03 DM-2 and four flex-pivot up-screening rigs successfully passed a cryogenic cold shake at RAL. This is a major milestone in the BSM programme, and a measure that the design analysis and build quality are fully up to space quality standards.
