Technology Development
From a leading role in establishing and developing the Smart Optics Faraday Partnership the UK ATC is maintaining its influence and involvement in technology development through the transition of Smart Optics to the Photonics Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN). Over the past 6 years Smart Optics has exceeded its agreed targets and levered almost £40M for collaborative projects with academic groups and industry. A large measure of our success is due to the combination of experienced professional engineers and scientists. We have built up our expertise through the realisation of sophisticated scientific instrumentation for leading telescopes throughout the world and for space based applications.
Our involvement in innovation and exploitation programmes, such as the process of technology development has enabled the UK ATC to form new strategic alliances. We have strengthened our role in the development of technologies for the next generation of scientific instruments for Extremely Large Telescopes and anticipate significant involvement in future collaborations to build these instruments.
