Innovation Group
The Innovation group at the UK ATC take a pro-active approach to ensuring that the UK remains at the forefront of world astronomy while simultaneously providing the UK tax-payer with maximum exploitation and impact of publicly funded research and development.
The group covers various activities which run in parallel with, and are complementary to, the normal instrument development focus of the UK ATC. This group's remit is broad and diverse covering aspects of external-facing activities (such as interface to industry and academia), internal activities (such as technology R&D), as well as cross-over activities (such as external exploitation of internal ideas). This broad remit can be roughly categorised into four general areas:
- Technology Development - which covers the UK ATC's technology R&D, both individually and in collaboration.
- Intellectual Property Rights - a coordinated approach to tracking, protecting and exploiting UK ATC Intellectual Property. This may be within or outside the field of astronomy instrumentation.
- Networking - linking together various groups in the sector for mutual benefit.
