Focal Plane Module

There are three focal plane modules in the MIRI, two in the spectrometer nad one in the imager. The focal plane modules are designed and tested at JPL. The detectors are provided by JPL from Raytheon Systems and are 1k x 1k Si:As BiB arrays.

Each FPM is comprised of two major portions; the detector assembly and the housing. The detector assembly includes the detector array, heaters and temperature sensors, a fanout board, a mechanical pedestal, the electrical ribbon cable and connectors. The housing includes the thick wall (for radiation shielding), the mechanical support structure for the detector assembly, auxiliary temperature sensors, and all interfaces with the OM.
