Astronomical Databases

A selection of databases aimed at both the professional and amateur astronomer. Some of these links point to other collections of useful astronomy links.

Research Papers

ADS Custom Query Form. NASA's Astrophysics Data System - literally millions of astronomy-related abstracts, fully scanned articles, and links to journals.
xxx.soton.ac.uk e-Print Archive. The latest astronomical research papers posted on the web.
The New Journal of Physics. A peer-reviewed, electronic journal publishing in all areas of physics.

Databases

NED. The NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database. A collection of data, images and references for extragalactic objects. Utterly indispensable.
SuperCOSMOS Sky Surveys. Query SuperCOSMOS digitised sky survey plates to obtain images and catalogues. Higher resolution than other digitised sky surveys, and includes colour, variability and proper motion information.
Small Bodies Data Archive. On-line Asteroid data and services offered by the Small Bodies Node.
National Space Science Data Centre. NSSDC provides access to a wide variety of data from NASA space flight missions.
The NRAO VLA Sky Survey. NVSS is a radio continuum survey covering the sky north of -40 degrees declination.
The Digitised Sky Survey. The Digitized Sky Survey comprises a set of all-sky photographic surveys in E, V, J, R, and N using the Palomar and UK Schmidt telescopes.
Lyon/Meudon Extragalactic Database. An archive of raw astronomical data and measurements provided by LEDA, through the Lyon Claude-Bernard University.
NCSA Astronomy Digital Image Library. Astronomical research-quality images available to the astronomical community and the general public.
Bureau des Longitudes Ephemerides Database. Real time calculation of the position of solar bodies using the official ephemerides calculated at the IMCCE.
