Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Large-scale Structure | ![]() |
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the study of large-scale structure at the Institute for Astronomy (IfA), Royal Observatory Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a leading centre of cosmological research, with major groups in galaxy clustering, gravitational lensing, high-redshift galaxies, and survey astronomy in general. The Fellow will work with Prof John Peacock to develop new ways of extracting cosmological information from galaxy redshift surveys, with particular emphasis on nonlinear issues and the influence of large-scale environment on structure formation. There will be the opportunity to work with data from the GAMA and VIPERS surveys, and to be a team member in the forthcoming eBOSS survey (part of the SDSS-IV project). Applicants should have a strong background in statistical cosmology and in the manipulation of large datasets (including N-body simulations).
The appointment will be for three years, with potential for renewal, starting in September 2014, with flexibility on the start date. Informal enquiries may be made to Prof John Peacock (jap@roe.ac.uk). Applications must be made online for vacancy reference 022739 at www.jobs.ed.ac.uk.
Applicants should supply a CV, bibliography, plus a research proposal of up to three pages. Letters of recommendation from three referees should be sent directly by email to Prof Peacock by the closing date.
Salary Scale: Grade 7 £30424 - £36298 (£39649 subject to performance).
Closing date: 11 December 2013.
