Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Exoplanet and Brown Dwarf Characterization

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the characterization of exoplanets and brown dwarfs at the Institute for Astronomy (IfA), Royal Observatory Edinburgh.

The Fellow will work with Dr Beth Biller to analyse and interpret photometric variability and spectroscopic data for brown dwarfs and directly imaged exoplanets. Depending on the interests of the fellow, there will be the opportunity to work with data from the Subaru SEEDS survey (Strategic Explorations of Exoplanet and Disks with Subaru), and the LBT LEECH survey, as well as to lead future large-telescope observational projects.

Experience with brown dwarf and exoplanet atmospheric modelling is not a requirement, but would be considered a plus.

The appointment will be for two years, with potential for a one year renewal, starting in Autumn 2014, with flexibility on the start date.

Applications must be made online for vacancy reference 024928 at www.jobs.ed.ac.uk by 5pm, 24 February 2014.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Beth Biller (bb@roe).

Applicants must supply a CV, bibliography, plus a research proposal of up to three pages. Letters of recommendation from three referees should be sent directly by email to Dr Biller by the closing date.

Salary Scale: Grade 7 £30728 - £36661 (£40046 subject to performance).

All emails addresses are @roe.ac.uk.
