The E-ELT project

The UK is one of the leading partners in plans for the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), which will be the world's largest optical/infrared, ground-based telescope. The E-ELT was identifed by Astronet and the STFC, together with the SKA, as of the highest strategic priority for the future.
